On the south coast we visit a very special site, home to an abundance of Red throated Diversupon arriving you’ll hear the long eerie calls of these enigmatic birds that make their home on the small sedge lined pools; this is a memorable encounter and a very special place. On our travels we will see many species including snipe and whimbrel on stone walls, and ducks and waders in quite inlet bays. There will be plenty of opportunities for landscape photography, not to mention the beautiful Icelandic Horses.

Day 3 After breakfast, We take the long drive to Jökulsárlón and an Evening photo session.

Days 4&5 Two whole days at Jökulsárlón capturing masses of breeding birds amidst the magnificent glacial lagoon. Working in this unique habitat allows for creative images in changing conditions. We capture Arctic Terns landing on sculpted glaciers and Barnacle Geese drifting past blue ice. Eiders are another colourful subject amidst this special landscape. Potential for redwing and redpoll.

Day 6 We drive to the capital Reykjavik in the morning. The afternoon and evening is free to explore the capital and relax. Along the way we’ll take advantage of any opportunities including possible Slavonian Grebes and Divers in roadside pools, or Plovers and Black tailed Godwit on raised tussocks. There really are so many possibilities as we drive through varied habitat and witness awe-inspiring views. Landscape images are always a possibility.

Day 7 We drive to Stykkisholmur to take the afternoon ferry to Flatey Island. Flatey is a birder’s paradise with everything on our doorstep. We stay here for 2 nights to make the most of the early mornings and evenings.

Day 8 Flatey. Species here include incredibly approachable redshank, snipe and red necked phalarope. Black guillemot and snow bunting breed close to the harbour and puffins breed on the cliffs. There is also chance of photographing the rare grey phalarope.

Day 9 We take the return ferry to mainland and drive back to our stop over hotel in Keflavik. Again we will be looking for any opportunities along the way including landscape images.

Day 10 After breakfast (depending on your flight time) Our representative will pick you up and transfer your group to the Airport for the onward flight.
